MS Dhoni, who is the stalwart leader of Chennai Super Kings, has guided the franchise to five IPL titles, the latest of those titles coming in 2023. It seems that the captaincy magic of Dhoni is however fading a little bit in the continuing 18th season. CSK currently languish at the very bottom of the points table after eight full matches despite returning to lead the side.

Chennai’s many vulnerabilities have been further exposed as well. Mumbai Indians thoroughly thrashed them by 9 wickets in only 15.4 overs while they were defending 176 runs.

Harbhajan Singh, a former CSK player, has definitively stirred the pot with a bold statement suggesting Suresh Raina should have rightfully captained the team instead of Dhoni.

Harbhajan said that “Suresh Raina should have continued playing for Chennai Super Kings for another three years” as well as that “he wasn’t backed by the team management, which ultimately pushed him towards retirement”. For a period of 15 years, he was affiliated with the franchise and he served in the capacity of vice-captain, but at no point did he ever have an actual opportunity to lead. He should have been the captain of CSK.

Bhajji’s assessment for CSK’s current season wasn’t held back by him either.

“I don’t see them qualifying for the playoffs. The game has considerably evolved, so teams need to adapt. Relying solely on spin-friendly Chennai pitches isn’t enough anymore. You have got to start with winning away from home also in order to win in the IPL.” He added in statement.
